Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a wide range of problems. CBT treatment usually involves working on changing unhelpful thinking and behavioural patterns, which might be causing or maintaining the emotional distress that individuals suffer.

Schema Therapy is an integrative approach, which helps individuals identify long-standing patterns of thinking and behaviour (known as “schemas”) which have developed early in life and influence how they think, feel, and behave as adults. Individuals learn to identify their coping behaviours, known as “modes”, which can sometimes be unhelpful, and can contribute significantly to our problems. Schema Therapy combines cognitive, behavioural, experiential, and relational techniques to help people lessen their unhelpful patterns of behaviour and develop more healthy and self-compassionate ways of thinking and responding.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most effective trauma treatments recommended by the WHO (World Health Organisation). An evidence-base has been built since its conceptualisation in the 1980s by its originator, Dr Francine Shapiro. It is often used to help people whose memories are “stuck” and unprocessed, which leads to difficulties in their day- to- day functioning, as well as their sleep.

Attachment-Based therapies such as Circle of Security Parenting program, look at supporting parents to reflect on their relationship with their child/ren, and provides them with a guide/map of navigating their relationship with their child, so they can build a stronger bond and build resilience. Other attachment-based therapies focus on helping parents understand their own struggles in how they have been parented, and consider ways to improve upon their strategies in their parenting style.
